The Hamden Art League, in cooperation with the Hamden Arts Commission takes
pleasure in posting the following selection of art classes.
VERSATILITY IN WAX: Introduction to Encaustic Painting
ONE-DAY ENCAUSTIC INTENSIVE (Adult workshop presented by Corina S. Alvarezdelugo) to be held at Corina's Studio:

Monday, March 12 & Friday, March 16, 9:30am – 12:30pm
Fee: $150 (includes materials)*A $20.00 non-refundable deposit holds your space.

In this hands-on intensive workshop, students will explore the luminous beauty and versatility of encaustic art— painting with molten, pigmented beeswax. Learning the basics of this ancient technique that has evolved into one of the most versatile mediums available for artists today, offering many exciting and creative possibilities!
Artists with backgrounds in almost any medium will find this workshop an exciting opportunity to expand their artistic possibilities. We will learn about the basic materials and formulas used in encaustic, and discuss safety procedures, supports, and grounds, along with a variety of tools and techniques for fusing. We'll also learn how to easily and inexpensively incorporate encaustic into a regular studio practice.
Demonstrations will focus on encaustic painting basics for fusing, glazing, transparencies, building up of texture, layering and scraping/scribing, as well as image transfer and how to embed collage elements will be covered. No matter your current medium or genre, encaustic has lots to offer. Students will work on their own projects with individual instruction as needed. Open to all levels, as we will work independently. Sculptors are also welcome!!

A more in depth class, covering all the aspects from the One-Day Intensive including creating transparencies and glazes, layering and scraping/scribing, building up of texture, creating clean lines, collage, carving, dipping, as well as works on paper, monotype, image transfer, and combining encaustic with other media (oils, pan pastel, watercolor…)
Immerse yourself to this two-day retreat filled with wax a creativity to energize your senses!! Students will have ample time to work on their own projects with individual instruction as needed. Open to all levels, as we will work independently.

Cancellation policy:
In the event of cancellation by the student, only the money after the deposit will be refunded if someone from the waiting list is able to attend. No refund for cancellations less than 14 days before workshop.

Painting On Ceramic Tile, Platter or Plate. Instructor, Diane Manguilli
Dates/Time: Diane's Studio is open Tuesdays 11am - 2 pm. Monday and Thursday 7-10 pm. Drop-ins are welcome.
Place: 23 Crestway.(off Sherman Ave.)
Cost: $7.50 per class. Make checks payable following each
lesson. Purchase of greenware, glazes, and firing of pieces is extra.
Diane offers individualized instruction in a relaxed, unstructured, free-form
class situation. She does not offer the throwing or spinning of pottery. What she does offer is a vast knowledge concerning the various paints and glazes used for painting on tiles, plates and other ceramic vessels. From decorative painting on preformed objects, the transfer of one of your own designs to a clay surface, or painting of intricate "Italian style" designs, and artistry certainly affords good training in brush handling.

Certified Dewberry One Stroke Instructor.
Place Classes are held at her home, 1086 West Woods Road
Dates/Time: Wednesdays from 12:30-2:30, and Thursdays from 6-8pm.
Cost: $25 per class. Supplies are extra.
If you are an "I can't even draw a straight line" person who wishes they knew how to paint, this is an easy and exciting way to begin. From the
very first class you will take home a decorative piece that will surprise and
delight you. Before you know it you will be painting glasses, trays, mailboxes
and, before you know it you may be working in oils on canvas. Tap into your unexplored artistic talent. The possibilities are endless.
